29 Sep We’re still looking for new board members!
We’re still looking for people who want to help us promote, improve and celebrate journalism at SPJ Western Washington by joining our Board of Directors.
We’ve pushed the deadline to October 10. Please sign up!
Through events, content and community efforts, SPJ Western Washington offers resources, advocates for journalists and shares coverage about how journalism is changing our world. But we need active and engaged members of our 11-member board of directors to do it, and we’re set to have about five vacant seats that need to be filled.
Board members sign up for two-year terms. Our board is responsible for enhancing membership, operating annual journalism awards and scholarships, and providing programming and resources for journalists in our state. For those early in their careers, board membership is a great way to network and develop skills. For those later in their careers, it’s a wonderful way to give back and help shape the future success of our work.
Please help us fill our vacant seats and serve journalists in this state! We’re looking for applications that include a brief description of your skills and history in journalism and service and why you’d like to join the board, plus some ideas of what you want to accomplish on the board. What could we do better? What do you bring to the table?
Write a few paragraphs and submit your application to spjwash@gmail.com by no later than the end of day (11:59 p.m.) Friday, October 10, 2025.
The current board will vote on submissions that weekend and announce the makeup of the new board shortly after, in time for our October 13 board meeting. At that time, we’ll introduce the new board members, as well as elect officers.
Reminder: You must be a current member of the national SPJ organization to serve on our board. Click here to sign up and make sure you indicate that you’re in the Western Washington chapter.
