Students get career tips from pros at SPJ Speed Date

By SPJ UW chapter president Ashley Stewart:

Nearly 20 journalism students on Wednesday toured The Seattle Times and met with local professionals for career advice during SPJ Speed Date, co-hosted by the Western Washington Pro and University of Washington student SPJ chapters.

Don Shelton, sports editor for The Seattle Times, showed students around the newsroom before a speed-dating-style networking event with mentors who shared career development tips.

Big thanks to mentors: Athima Chansanchai of Microsoft; Berit Anderson, managing editor of Crosscut; Danielle Leigh, anchor and reporter for KING; Erika Schultz, photographer for The Seattle Times; Evan Bush, marijuana reporter and social media editor for The Seattle Times; Matthew Grad, web producer for The Seattle Times and Sara Lerner, reporter for KUOW.
