20 Apr Please donate auction items for SPJ scholarship banquet
One of the most important functions of the Western Washington Pro Chapter is to raise funds for student scholarships. These $2,000 awards make a big difference in the lives of Washington’s future journalists, and we are asking for your help.
If you have items you think that other media professionals would want to buy, we are asking you to donate them to the chapter so that they can be sold or auctioned at our annual awards banquet on Saturday, May 21.
I personally am donating several subscriptions to newspapers and magazines, bottles of wine, memberships and tickets to events. I will also be donating cash to our student scholarship fund, and I urge you to consider doing the same. I am hoping that you can find items in your workplace, home or through your network of contacts that will help raise funds for scholarships.
Each year the auction raises about $3,000 and we would sure like to grow that — every dollar we raise through the auction will go to scholarships. In case you are wondering, gifts are not tax deductible because the chapter is not a public charity.
If you have an item you want to submit – art, wine, books, experiences, anything with value – please contact our auction chair Breanne Coats at brecoats@hotmail.com. She wants to know what you will donate by April 29 so we can make arrangements to pick up by May 6.
Thank you for supporting our scholarship program, and if you are not able to donate, please come to our annual banquet on May 21 and maybe you can find something to buy
