SPJ NW Excellence in Journalism Contest starts soon

Update: The NW Excellence in Journalism Contest is now opening on Jan. 20. See here for more information.

The SPJ Northwest Excellence in Journalism Contest, recognizing the best work published in 2011, will begin accepting entries on Jan. 15.  All submission are due by 5 p.m. on Feb. 15.

The contest’s categories are being finalized and the submission website is being created and will be available shortly. All entries must be made electronically, except for General Excellence categories.

The contest is open to journalists in Oregon, Washington, Alaska, Idaho and Montana. The State of Oregon, however, does not participate in the nondaily newspaper portion of the contest. The Oregon/SW Washington Pro Chapter hosts its own contest for those entries.

Entry fees will be discounted to $20 for SPJ members for all entries but General Excellence. General Excellence entries will be $50 each. (Join SPJ today)

Entry fees will be $25 for non-SPJ members for all entries but General Excellence. General Excellence entries will be $55 each.

On May 22, the Western Washington Pro Chapter will hold its annual awards banquet recognizing winners within its own membership area.

For more information about the contest and its timeline, please visit SPJ’s Region 10 website (the Region oversees the NW Excellence in Journalism contest). Or, you can contact Region 10 Director Dana Neuts or Western Washington Pro Chapter President Clay Holtzman.
