SPJ Third Annual Fall Continuing Ed Series: 5 Tools You Need to Succeed as a Journalist Today

We are excited to announce our SPJ chapter’s third annual Fall Continuing Ed Series, starting next Monday, October 20, 2008. The series will focus on new media tools that journalists need to succeed in our ever-changing industry. Our Fall series will feature five classes, every Monday evening starting next week, October 20. Classes will be held 7 to 9 p.m. at the Seattle P-I, 101 Elliott Ave., Seattle.

10/20:  Taking digital photos for the web
Instructor:  Marcus Donner, freelance photojournalist
10/27:   Business reporting:  how to speak the language of the executives
Instructors:  Andrea James, Seattle P-I, and Hilary Reeves, Business Examiner
11/03:  Shoot and edit video for the web,
Instructor:  Casey McNerthney, Seattle P-I
11/10:  Using social media (FaceBook, Twitter, MySpace) as reporting tools,
Instructors: Ron Sylvester, Wichita Eagle; Monica Guzman, Seattle P-I
11/17:  Blogging 101 – what you need to know to blog effectively and get read,
Instructors: Nancy Leson and Jerry Brewer, The Seattle Times

Classes are FREE for members, and $10/class for nonmembers. Pizza will be provided.

To RSVP for a class, please contact Dana Blozis by the end of business on the Friday before the class. Space is limited, so RSVP as soon as possible.

Additional classes on other topics will be held this spring at The Seattle Times.
